When Gena Dry was seventeen years old she bought her first car. It was an orange Triumph Herald convertible. Gena loved to put the roof of the car down and the volume of her music up and sing along at the top of her voice to the B52’s, to the amusement or embarrassment of her passengers. Gena decided that it would be a good idea to get her own band together so she could sing to a willing audience and put an advert in the local paper.
John Bastible (The Trudy) answered the advert. John asked his friend Billy Plummer (The Trudy) to join and they formed Spice. In the short time they were together they supported The Cardicacs and The Trudy at various venues around Kingston and recorded a demo. The songs from the demo were later recorded by The Trudy and are still available on The Trudy’s albums.
